The discovery of an unconscious, seven-year-old girl inside a Langley City home on Saturday evening has prompted a police investigation.
Langley RCMP say they are investigating that the child ingested the date-rape drug GHB, which was found in a water bottle inside her home. Officials were told the drugs belonged to a 42-year-old man who was staying at the home. However, police don't know why GHB was in the girl's house.
Paramedics were called to the residence near 208th Street and 55th Avenue around 9 p.m.
Police were notified when responders found an unresponsive young girl inside the home, Langley RCMP Sgt. Don Davidson said.
The girl was transported to hospital in stable condition and is expected to fully recover, Davidson said.
Family members were home at the time, however, no further details regarding the girl's injuries have been made available.
“We are not sure at this point,” Davidson said.
“We’re trying to talk to family members who were present at the scene to figure out exactly what happened.”
Cpl. Holly Marks from the Langley RCMP said the Serious Crimes Unit will be involved in the case, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development will be looking into the incident.
