Doe, a deer, a 'wacko' deer: Aggressive deer pestering residents of B.C. town
CRANBROOK, B.C. — Some "wacko" deer have residents of a community in eastern British Columbia on edge after a newspaper carrier was attacked twice in a week.
Brock James of Cranbrook already had a black eye and cuts from a July 2 run-in with a doe when he had an altercation with another aggressive deer three days later.
"I was walking along and she head-butted me in the chin," Brock said. "I was just lucky it was the head because their hoofs are so sharp."
Brock said its not uncommon to see deer in the area, but he has never encountered such aggressive does.
"There were fawns with the doe on the Friday, but I didn't see any on the Monday," Brock said. "I didn't even see it coming."
Jones's wife, Sherry, says she's also encountered several aggressive deer, with one animal rearing on its hind legs as it saw her.
"It's like they're wacko," Sherry said. "The bucks are even going after people. They're even going after parked cars and telephone poles."
The attacks came just weeks after a YouTube video of a doe attacking a cat and dog in a Cranbrook residential neighbourhood went viral.
Cranbrook is about 380 kilometres southwest of Calgary.
