Vancouver police reopened the centre lane of the Lions Gate Bridge by 8:40 Wednesday morning, after a protest by the group Fathers 4 Justice forced its closure before dawn.

Two members of the fathers'-rights group, dressed as Batman and Robin, climbed up to the cables on the east side of the bridge and unfurled a banner, according to reports. News 1130 was reporting heavy southbound traffic during rush hour.

The website for the Canadian wing of Fathers 4 Justice, a group started in the United Kingdom, says it "believes, and will tirelessly promote, every child's right in life and law, to be raised by both parents on an equal basis in the event of separation and/or divorce." Past sites of protest in the Lower Mainland have included the Alex Fraser Bridge.
